Summer Internships

  • Baker Institute DC policy internships

RCEL and the Baker Institute sponsor several engineering students' participation in Rice's Jesse Jones Leadership Center Summer in Washington. This opportunity provides a stipend, policy/leadership training, and support from fellow Rice students in the program, and you will be working in an internship that fits your interests.

  • Learning Machines

This internship explores the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of information analysis and processing in text documents, toward building automatically-generated learning systems. Students work to develop a cutting-edge cognitive tutor that interface with the Connexions Project.

  • Freshmen Engineering Interns

Four students work in the OEDK to prototype, test, revise, and build final design solutions based on student projects from ENGI 120 (Introduction to Engineering Design).  Students hone leadership, teamwork, and design skills in an intensely creative setting.

  • City of Houston collaboration

RCEL and the Baker Institute for Public Policy have arrange for several internship opportunities with the City of Houston each summer. Students consult on high-impact, high importance projects that are used to re-engineer how the city is run and completely overhaul the way its citizens interact with it.

  • Rice Alliance

RCEL funds up to two engineering graduate students to be "Rice Alliance Summer Entrepreneurship Fellows" to intern at Rice Alliance and help assess Rice technologies for commercialization.
